Pavement milling (cold planing, asphalt milling, or profiling) is the process of removing at least part of the paved surface area. The milling depth is automatically set to remove the complete depth of the asphalt or just the surface to correct any imperfections before repaving. There are a number of different reasons for milling instead of simply repaving over the existing surface.
